EMCURE PHARMA, N-DOC LAUNCH DIABETES AWARENESS PROJECT
In a bid to increase awareness about diabetes and obesity among children and adults across 50 cities in India, pharma major Emcure Pharmacuticals Ltd and National Diabetes Obesity and Cholestrol Foundation (N-DOC)announced the commencement of Project DiSHAA.
Speaking on the ocassion, Padmashri Prof Anoop Misra, chairman of N-DOC, said 5,00,000school children aged 10 and above in 50 cities of India would be educated over a period of 18 months and a total of 500 schools were being targeted for this purpose.
Innovative and locally appropriate educationstrategies would be used to spread the awareness about diabetes and obesity with the support from 50 top diabetologists from across the country, he said.
Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd’s executive director and chief operating officer A K Khanna said this project would bring a major health improvement and lifestyle modification. This would lead to the prevention of diabetes and obesity as the rate of diabetes patients was increasing and it would go up to 80 million by 2030, if no preventive measures were taken now, he said.
Renowned cricketer Padmashri Dilip Vengsarkar, who was the chief guest at the event, said it is the responsibilty of the parents to look after the health of their children. Nowadays, parents are busy in their work and ask the children to watch television or buy computer or laptop for them to browse or chat with their friends, he said.
Parents should help overcome this type of illness by promoting their child to stay fit by playing sports, he added.
